Mision Lago Estate | Stephanie + Michael

Mision Lago is twenty minutes from downtown Tampa and looks like it is somewhere else entirely, which is the whole point. Labif Filmhouse has filmed at the estate in Thonotosassa.

Mision Lago Estate sits on twenty lakefront acres on Lake Thonotosassa in Hillsborough County, about twenty minutes from downtown Tampa. The property runs a rustic ranch setting with a vineyard, an orchid nursery, and an air-conditioned barn and greenhouse.

How it actually films

The Tuscan framing works because the planting is real. A vineyard and mature landscaping give depth to a frame — rows recede, which is the simplest way to make a flat Florida property read as three-dimensional on camera.

The greenhouse is the unusual asset. Glass overhead means top light that is diffuse rather than direct, which is flattering and effectively unavailable anywhere else in the Tampa area. It is also a heat trap, so it works far better as a portrait setting than a reception space in summer.

Questions

Is Mision Lago Estate a good venue for wedding video?

The Tuscan framing works because the planting is real. A vineyard and mature landscaping give depth to a frame — rows recede, which is the simplest way to make a flat Florida property read as three-dimensional on camera.

What should couples plan for when filming at Mision Lago Estate?

Vineyard rows late in the day. Low sun down the rows is the property's signature frame. Greenhouse portraits, briefly. Great light, hot room. Lake Thonotosassa for the wide. It is what makes the acreage read as an estate.
