Andalusian Oaks is a European-style estate in horse country, and it is nowhere near the coast — which is exactly why it looks the way it does. Labif Filmhouse travelled to film there.
Andalusian Oaks sits on 32 acres near Ocala, in Morriston, Florida — about an hour and a half from both Tampa and Orlando, and half an hour from Gainesville. The property is built around mature oaks, gardens and an Italian-style piazza.
How it actually films
Inland Marion County is a genuinely different landscape from Tampa Bay: rolling pasture, old oaks and no water on the horizon. That removes the reflected light every coastal venue gets for free, which makes the shade under the oaks and the piazza architecture the two things doing the lighting work.
The piazza is the property's distinguishing feature. Hard architectural edges surrounded by open pasture is an unusual combination in Florida, and it lets a film cut between formal, structured frames and open countryside without leaving the estate.
What to protect in the timeline
- Guest travel. Ninety minutes from either city is a genuine planning constraint.
- Oaks for midday, piazza for late light. The architecture takes low sun well.
- A wide that shows the pasture. It is the fact that makes this venue not-Florida-looking.
