The Sky Terrace is the reason to film at the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach, and it is the only setting there that cannot be replicated anywhere else on the coast. Labif Filmhouse has filmed at the resort.
The Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort looks west over the Gulf of Mexico. Indoors it has the Aqualea Ballroom, with coffered ceilings and chandeliers, seating up to 200; the Belleair Ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows onto the beach; and the Caladesi Room with a wrap-around terrace. Above all of it is the Sky Terrace — an open balcony with 360-degree views of Clearwater Beach and the Intracoastal, which seats up to 200 for a ceremony.
How it actually films
Three hundred and sixty degrees means there is no bad direction, which sounds like a gift and is actually a decision. The Gulf is one way, the Intracoastal the other, and the ceremony orientation determines whether the film's backdrop is sunset over open water or the waterway and the mainland behind it. That choice is made at booking, not on the day.
Being above the beach rather than on it solves the problem most Clearwater weddings have: no members of the public wander through frame, and the wind at terrace height is steadier than at sand level.
What to protect in the timeline
- Face the ceremony west if sunset matters. Clearwater's sunset is the region's most famous and it is directional.
- The ballrooms after dark, the terrace before. Their strengths do not overlap.
- A wind call for the terrace. Elevated and exposed; it is manageable but not ignorable.
